How to plan a solo date?
Planning a solo date is pretty easy. The first thing you need to do is assess your mood.
Are you interested in relaxing with a cozy night in, or a bold outing that’s a little more adventurous?
A solo date doesn’t mean you have to go out alone. Jazz concerts, trendy bars, and restaurants are great places to go on a solo date. Theme parks or a weekend trip across the country aren’t off limits either.
Some people struggle with planning trips with friends, family, and their significant others, which is why they opt for solo dates instead.
Getting everyone’s schedules to align can be a hassle, not to mention the fact that some people simply have different interests.
There are things I love to do and would like to try that my family and friends have no interest in. I love going on exploratory solo dates to feed my inner child.
Adulthood is as exciting as you make it. If you’re always neglecting the adventurous side of you or sticking to what’s considered normal, then you’re likely missing out on life.
Following the masses gets pretty uncool after high school.
Women who embrace and appreciate their freedom make the most out of life.
They don’t allow their fears to hinder their pursuit of happiness.
Make sure that you plan your solo date with your hobbies and personal interests in mind.
Things like horseback riding lessons, playing tennis, visiting a ski resort, or learning how to decorate a cake can be outings you can turn into a solo date of your own.
Think outside of the box when you’re planning a solo date alone. The point is to try something new that brings you joy, or engage in activities that will provide you with the peace you seek.
Now, a little retail therapy will never get old in my book, but planning a solo date that’s different from your daily routine is key.
A solo date can simply include visiting a handful of places that you know and love.
Maybe it’s a luxurious spa that gives the best massages, or a restaurant that serves a delicious dessert that’s to die for.
Determine where you’d like to have your solo date next. Mix things up by becoming a local tourist or venturing out to another state or neighborhood you aren’t familiar with.
There are so many things to see and places to go that’s right in your backyard. I love exploring different neighborhoods throughout my city and going on walking tours, and visiting cute and quaint cafes and bakeries.
A solo date can also entail you staying right at home, binge watching a new Netflix show, cooking a cozy meal, pampering yourself, and chilling out in a nice, fuzzy robe.
Finally, you want to select a budget range for your solo date. Solo dates don’t have to break the bank.
We all know ‘outside’ is expensive. You leave home just to return with little to no money leftover to spend.
When you properly plan for solo dates, you can guarantee that your expenses are covered. If it’s a day trip or a dine-in reservation for dinner for one, review the prices in advance.
Things like parking, tips, airline tickets, gas, event tickets, and extra cash all need to be taken into consideration.
Know what you’re willing and able to spend beforehand. Decide on an amount and put the money aside. What if you want to splurge on an item, order an extra glass of wine, or do a service upgrade?
You don’t have to spend the entire budget, but make sure you have enough.
How often should you go on a solo date?
As often as you need to. Planning and intentionally scheduling solo dates can provide numerous benefits for mental health.
Mental Health Benefits Of A Solo Date:
- Boosts self-esteem and confidence
- Encourages mindfulness
- Reduces anxiety
- Promotes self-awareness
- Provides emotional balance
- Fosters creativity
- Improves emotional resilience
- Encourages self-compassion
They have recently become a self-care staple in my monthly routine. I try to schedule them at least 2-3 times per month, and I never miss a solo date at the beginning of a new month.
Solo dates will allow you to reset and recenter yourself while ensuring that you meet your personal goals for the year. Time moves by so fast, it’s really easy to lose sight of your vision.
I intentionally choose alone time to have space and time to process things, be one with nature, and avoid distractions or overstimulation from any outside noise.
Don’t get me wrong, I make sure that I’m supporting and fostering relationships with family and friends. But there’s just something about that alone time that gets me back on track.
At a minimum, schedule your solo date at least twice a month. Consider it as a personal development day.
Going to the theater and getting a bite to eat can be way more intentional when you incorporate a few journaling sessions, some reading, and a self-help podcast on the way to your destination.
Schedule and elevate your solo date for optimal results!
How do you go out alone without being awkward?
I will admit that going out alone used to be challenging.
However, once I promised myself to no longer miss out on opportunities or new experiences, my fear of being judged while out alone went out the window.
Contrary to belief, no one cares about individuals who go to events, classes, or outings alone.
The best thing you can do is to be open to fully immersing yourself in the experience and meeting new people.
People are much more willing to get to know you when you’re alone rather than when you are in a pair or with a group.
I’ve met some amazing people by simply being inviting and friendly, which helped me enjoy my solo dates and trips even more.
As an introvert, I love engaging in small talk about things I am genuinely interested in.
When I’ve gone on solo dates to art festivals, museums, theme parks, cooking classes and entertainment shows, I’ve met new people while I’m there.
Some of them were older couples, families, or other individuals out on solo dates, just like me.
Now I will advise it may not be wise to go to events intended strictly for couples or large groups alone.
Small networking events are okay to do alone, but an escape room will probably require you to have a group.
I’d opt for an upscale bar during the day opposed to a nightclub for a solo date as well. You want to make sure that you are safe and not going out alone late at night.
Day brunches and dance classes can be fun and a little less awkward. You can always bring along your earphones, some reading material, or work on a creative project at the table for some extra company.
People watching can also be entertaining. Come on, I know I’m not the only one who loves to observe strangers while I’m out!
Be sure to request a table by the window or somewhere in the restaurant with a decent view.
Another hack that makes solo dates less awkward is going during the morning or when things aren’t too busy.
Crowds may or may not be your thing, but they can get overwhelming when you are alone. So, get an early start to the day unless your event or class takes place at night.
Smaller, more intimate settings can be less intimidating.
I’ve taken pottery, candle making, and flower arranging classes that were capped at 15-20 people. They were much easier to navigate individually compared to places that attracted much larger crowds.
My last word of general advice to make going out alone less awkward is to be overly confident.
Put on a nice outfit or make up glam that will boost your self-esteem.
Remember that you’re taking yourself on an actual date so show up for yourself like you would anyone else.
