Why create a summer bucket list?
One of my goals this year is to check everything off my adult summer bucket list. I didn’t indulge in the hobbies and activities of interest to me last year.
Primarily because I simply didn’t plan properly, and I stayed within my comfort zone. But I won’t be making that mistake again, goal friends. I 100% do not recommend it.
All work and no play is not a way to live.
If you want to romanticize your life right where you are, right now, summer is the best time to do it.
The weather’s nice, and days are much longer. That means more time to warm up with joy. Book all the trips, events, and classes that will lead to a new and improved version of you.
Summer provides us with ample opportunity to indulge in unforgettable moments, unique experiences, and to try something new.
A summer bucket list enhances the season with enjoyable hobbies and events that feel fulfilling and intentional.
Creating an adult summer bucket list printable to use as a blueprint is a way to live intentionally.
This time around, I’m prepared to say ‘yes’. During the past summer, I became so caught up in new opportunities, traveling, and the holiday season that I neglected my agenda.
I consistently pushed things back or canceled altogether. Don’t make the same mistake.
Choose ‘you’. Work will be there. The gym will be there. Your problems…guess what? Will be there.
Curate a manifestation list of everything you would like to experience this summer. It can be as simple as taking a nap in a hammock, sipping a cool drink of lemonade on the balcony, or a long walk on the beach.
Write everything that brings you joy on a sheet of paper. If your adult summer bucket list is too long, continue checking the items off for the rest of the year.
Your summer bucket list should include your interests only. Summer lasts 2-3 months out of the year. Prioritize your needs and desires.
You spend most of the year doing for others. Whether it’s putting in overtime on the job, catering to your babies, or running a household alone, women do it all.
Reserve the warmer months for yourself.
And don’t be afraid to respond with a firm ‘no’ when you have plans in place. We’re not letting anything get in our way this Summer. It’s a judgment free-zone over here!
What are some things you’re looking forward to this summer? Hot date nights or solo dates? A dip in the pool? Pickleball? Late night rides with the windows rolled down?
Need more ideas on what to add to your adult summer bucket list?
I’m sharing 7 hobbies that will help you relax, warm up, and bask in joy.
What’s on your bucket list this summer?
1. Calligraphy
I promise calligraphy is one of the most relaxing crafting hobbies you’ll ever try. With small class sizes, instructors are hands-on and attentive. They provide cute calligraphy kits for beginners that you can use to practice at home.
Workshops through Sip and Script are available on weeknights and weekend afternoons. Each class runs about 2-3 hours long and doesn’t break the bank for those in search of some budget-friendly fun.
You can schedule a group class or drop-in to meet cool new people there. Calligraphy doesn’t require that much engagement, movement or socializing. It’s an artsy craft that helps with focus and clears your mind.
Who doesn’t want to learn a new art form you can use for DIY projects at home? So, if you’re looking for a peacefully productive activity to do over the summer, don’t rule out calligraphy. The addiction is almost instant.
You’re bound to become a professional calligrapher in no time!

2. Flower Arranging
I watched a few vloggers who made videos about how to romanticize your life with daily habits, and there’s one thing I noticed they all had in common – buying fresh flowers every day.
Trader Joe’s or a local market with fresh flowers is usually my go-to, but I wanted to learn how to make my own arrangements.
I never knew it was a learned skill and that various types of flower plant families go better together.
After a little more digging, I discovered that flower arranging was a hobby many people engage in throughout the year.
I found several workshops and pop-ups across town that I signed up for, and every single experience was transformative.
For one, I met some new friendly faces who shared the same interests as me. The ambiance was also unmatched.
My flower arranging class was on a weeknight in an intimate studio space that played relaxing music with complimentary beverages and small bites.
If you’re looking for a quiet vibe this summer that allows you to reflect and express your creativity in a safe space, then flower arranging may be an activity you should add to your bucket list this summer.
3. Candle Making
For all my candle connoisseurs, you know it’s way past the time for you to learn how to do wax pouring. This is another adult summer bucket list idea that’s relaxing for the soul.
Candle making is fun for a date or girl’s night out if you want to avoid crowds and loud music. The smell alone in these spaces are chef’s kiss. Yes, you can create your own signature scent for your candle, then pick it up to take home a few hours later while enjoying complimentary wine and cheese.
There’s no need to say more. Count me in!
4. Vinyasa Yoga (Outdoors)
I’ve tried my hand at Vinyasa yoga before at various studios, but I never felt connected to the practice itself.
That’s until I realized my approach was wrong. I was using yoga as a substitute for daily exercise, completely unaware of its long-term benefits and overall purpose.
Yoga is a form of self-care that focuses on body strengthening, breath work, stretching, and sculpting. Instructors call out a series of poses that support your physical and mental health.
Fluid body movements like the downward dog, cat-cow, tree pose, and my favorite, Savasana (I just love how that sounds rolling off my tongue) aide in stress management, improving flexibility, boosting energy, heart health, and injury recovery.
Vinyasa yoga promotes spiritual healing through meditation, sound therapy, and relaxation. It’s a practice that supports turning down the noise, centering yourself, and transforming your mindset.
Morning yoga is a great way to set the tone for the day.
Yoga is a non-negotiable when creating your adult summer bucket list.
It’s the perfect experience to add to your summer routine. Throw on some soft music or sounds in nature and take your yoga mat to the beach.
If one of your summer goals is to join a community, keep an eye out for free and paid curated yoga experiences near you.
5. Pottery
When I think of pottery, the first thing that comes to mind is the epic scene in the movie Ghost. Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore have the perfect date night together; one many hopeless romantics would recreate in a heartbeat.
So, why not this summer? Sign up for a pottery class with your beau or make it a brunch activity to do with friends.
Pottery doesn’t require much skill, but taking a beginner’s class over the summer is a start. It’s a quiet hobby many people appreciate when they need a break from the chaotic world.
But I love the art of creating unique mugs, vases, teapots, and bowls with my creative touch on the designs. Pottery parties are pretty popular these days. They also make the best DIY sentimental gifts to give away.

6. Cooking Class
Take advantage and learn how to burn from hands-on chefs in the kitchen. A cooking class is budget-friendly, satisfies your appetite, and provides you with practical skills you can impress your family with or use at home.
Maybe there’s a family recipe you’d like to perfect at the next outing, or you want to wow your coworkers at the annual potluck.
Following a simple recipe, while drinking wine, and smelling the aroma of a home cooked meal right out of the oven is something you just can’t beat during the summer.
Sign up for a variety of classes throughout the summer with different chefs who specialize in various cultural cuisines. Make it a learning opportunity for your adult summer bucket list.
7. Yachting
This is the fun summer activity you have to do before summer’s end!
Nothing beats the beautiful ocean views, sailing among the waves, with the sun beaming down on your face.
You don’t need to own your own boat or make a mortgage payment to rent a yacht either. Check around your local area for group discounts or special events. You can go yachting with friends or pay premium prices to make it a brunch date.
One of my fondest memories is yachting in the Mediterranean Sea; taking photographs, eating fresh fruit, and relishing in the breeze while on the way to Positano.
I returned to my hometown and made yachting a staple in every summer bucket list I’ve created for years. It’s also one of the funnest summer bucket list ideas for young adults.
The experience is unmatched. You’ll just have to see for yourself.
How do you write a summer bucket list?
Think of all the hobbies, activities, travel destinations and events you’ve been postponing for months, maybe even years. They should include your personal interests and any skills you’d like to learn.
Summer is the perfect season to do all the things, but if you don’t make a plan in advance, the time will just fly by.
Writing a summer bucket list is simple.
- Make the list as short or long as you like.
- Ensure there are no limitations as far as time constraints, budget, etc.
- Write everything you desire to do on a sheet of paper.
- Select 5-10 things off of that list that are most important to you
- Conduct research on the event or activity to determine if it’s a good fit for your summer schedule and finances
- Book flights for travels and sign up for any events or classes beforehand
- Remove any activity or hobby that will cause stress or anxiety. Only move forward with items on your summer bucket list that bring you joy
- Place your summer bucket list on a bulletin board, bathroom mirror, or refrigerator where you can always see it. This will be your motivation to keep going and reap your reward for all the hard work you’ve put in the first half of the year.
Now, wasn’t that easy?
